"The single most effective act one can do to become happy is doing something for someone else," beautifully stated by a dedicated servant to her community Nan Johnston. Nan has been an active legend in the Solivita community since 2004, with a vision "to do" for others. She and her late husband Tom joined the rotary club and learned of a charity group called Give Kids the World, with more than 866 hours of service she is an accomplished ambassador. Running parallel to her reputation as a seasoned librarian Nan created a book drive through the Solivitas Circle Advisory Board. Collecting books for a local elementary school her goal was to collect enough books that each child in second and third grade would have their very own book, and with no surprise they exceeded the goal. Her inspiring commitment doesn't stop there she worked to broaden the programs for children at the Osceola Center for the Arts, sits on the advisory board of the new Poinciana Medical Center, serves on the pastor council and the Conference of Catholic Women's Org, and the list goes on. Her generous acts are too extensive to bundle but not do not go unrecognized, that is why Solivitas would like to honor NAN as their neighborhood hero.
